Street Sweeper

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

So, I get to my Thursday school. I walk into the office and notice that there is this big sign posted on the wall. It says, “STREET SWEEPING TODAY”. I stare for a second and then wonder, “Hmm…am I parked in a street sweeping zone? I pause for a second, drop everything, and run out to my car. As I’m running to my car, I see the street sweeper start to go down the street. I run towards my car hoping I beat the street sweeper to it. Luckily I did and moved the car in the nick of time. :-D No ticket today! I guess I forgot to put a street into the calendar on my Treo.

Parking Tickets

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

In most big cities, street sweeping is done once a month. So, when parking, you need to pay attention to the signs that state something like, “NO PARKING between 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Every 3rd Monday of the month – Street Sweeping.” If you don’t, you get a $36 parking ticket…at least in Berkeley you do. I managed to get 2 in less than 3 days! Yay me!

The solution, you ask? I have programmed the street sweeping dates of the streets I most commonly park on into the calendar on my Treo. My Treo will give me an alert a half hour before the street sweeping hours start, so I have a chance to move. :-)
