So Where Do You Stand Morally?

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please give due consideration to each line.

THE SITUATION

You are in New Orleans to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are photo journalist working for a major newspaper, and you’re caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

THE TEST

Suddenly you see a man in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It’s the President, George W. Bush At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. You have two options- you can save the life of the President, or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world’s most Famous men.

THE QUESTION

Here’s the question, and please give an honest answer…….
Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

Free Bikes Go Fast When Car is Dieing

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

Today I helped clean out our garage, so I could park my car in there. We had a couple bikes that we didn’t need…so I put a “free” sign on them and wheeled them out to the curb. As soon as I got the bikes to the curb, this guy pulls up in a smoking 1980-ish gold Toyota Tercel Hatchback (looks so retarded).

He says to me, “Dude! My car is about to break down any minute! I’ll so take that bike!” So I gave him the bike. Then he was all, “Could you make sure the tires are aired up…I may need to use it soon.”.

So I filled the tires with air for him. He shut his car off and got out to load the bike into the back of his Tercel. He put the bike in the car, gave his thanks, and was on his way. It took him about 5 minutes to get his car started. I thought he was gonna end up using the bike, but he got it going!

Was the oddest/funniest thing that has happened to me in a while.

California Quake Next?

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

I just read the Yahoo! News article (from the LA Times): California Earthquake Could Be the Next Katrina. If I understand this correctly, the major disasters, in the order they have happened (Sept 11, Katrina), were predicted in August 2001.

U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones remembers attending an emergency training session in August 2001 with the Federal Emergency Management Agency that discussed the three most likely catastrophes to strike the United States.

First on the list was a terrorist attack in New York. Second was a super-strength hurricane hitting New Orleans. Third was a major earthquake on the San Andreas fault.

So, if the predictions are correct….we’re next. It may be about 4 years until “the big one” (Sept 11 and Katrina are about 4 years apart), but we’ll just have to wait and see.

I didn’t want to post this so soon, since my post below isn’t that old…so please view the post below, if you haven’t already.

Gov’t Relief Responce Time for Katrina is Grade F

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

From what I’ve witnessed over the past week is how slow the government has sent in support for the victims of Katrina. It is absolutely horrible. This disaster is most likely worse than September 11…but isn’t viewed that way since it wasn’t a “terrorist attack”. FEMA support for the 1989 earthquake here in California was much faster…and it was nothing compared to Katrina.

The death count would be much lower if responce was up to par. The government is all talk and no action. It’s utterly pathetic. I really wish I could do something to help the Katrina victims besides sending money. I really do.

Take a look at this video clip. It’s some proof that response sucked ass:

SSH Tunneling Rocks

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

I was playing around with SSH and its tunneling magic. Since my webserver at work has port 22 open…with a little SSH magic…I have access to anything on the network I want! How freaking awesome! Just 10 minutes ago I had tunneled the RDP port from my PC at work…and I could do Remote Desktop Connection. I also tunneled a few ports on my backup webserver (which doesn’t have an external IP at the moment) so I could access Webmin and other stuff. If I had a VNC server running on my Mac, I would show you a screen shot of that, too! SSH tunneling rocks.

Of course, the fine people who developed Fugu made tunneling even easier!

Death of a Cell Phone

Monday, September 5th, 2005

Cell phones don’t like to be submerged under water for 20 minute periods. I learned this Sunday. My family and I went boating on Sunday…it was really fun. We got there around noon…cruised around…played with the dog. I didn’t realize my phone was in my pocket until I was curious on what time it was. So of course, as instinct, I reached for my pocket. When my hand was about half way, I didn’t expect anything to be in my pocket…but, it was there! The phone turns on, and I can hear the person talking to me…but they can’t hear me.

I’m gonna take it apart and see if completely drying it out will help. I going to assume no, but it’s worth a shot.

I Love Being Informed

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

I absolutetly hate water spots, with a passion. Not on my car, but on anybody’s car. If somebody’s vehicle is in danger of being watered, I make sure I see that it’s moved…no matter what the condition it’s in. Anyways..

So I’ve finally learned the sprinker times at my house. 8 AM and 2 PM. I’ve been asking my mom about it almost every day since I got the T-Bird…so I can park on the driveway. It worked out perfect. I leave before 8, and get home after 2..most of the time. Whenever I get home early, I park on the street until after 2 PM. Well, today my class was cancelled, so I was home early…9-ish. So I parked on the driveway thinking nothing of it. I’ll move the car at 1:50. Mom walks in and says “your car was watered” I said, “no, I parked on the street.” Then I realize it was 12, and look outside and ask her what the hell she was talking about. She says she changed the watering times. Yeah, okay…thanks for telling me, bitch. Now the T-Bird has water spots all over it, and all the “remedies” people have I’ve never had successfully work.

You have no idea how angry I am…and how much I hate hard water…and how I thank my mother for keeping me oh so informed. Yeah, thanks.

Bash.org

Sam showed me this website, bash.org. It’s IRC quotes. Check out the top 100 quotes. Very funny. Almost makes me wish I was an avid IRC chatter…could contribute.

Speaking of IRC. Colloquy is a very nice IRC client for OS X.
